A joint cooperation between Al-Maarif University College and the health institutions affiliated to the Ministry of Health. Due to the directives of Dean of Al-Maarif University College Prof. Dr. Yaqoub Nadhim Ahmed, followed-up by head of Department of Medical Laboratory Techniques, Prof. Dr. Iyad Abdul Razzaq. The students of Department of Medical Laboratory Techniques – Fourth year supervised by (Ms. Heba Mowaffaq Salim), had made a field visit to the main blood bank center / Anbar on Monday and Tuesday. This visit was based on:
1. A field tour was conducted in the Center’s Division, accompanied by the Analytics Technical Officer, Omar Rajab Chahouth, where they were briefed on the medical and health services provided by the Blood Bank Division.
2. Explanation of the application of the process of drawing blood from donors after making sure of their fitness and eligibility to donate by conducting laboratory and clinical tests, the most important of which are: –
Blood groups or blood groups, Rhesus factor, Examination of the antigens of the Rh factor, Tests for blood free from communicable and infectious diseases such as (AIDS, syphilis, malaria and hepatitis C)
3. How to separate blood components such as plasma, platelets, red blood cells and factor VIII, and prepare the clotting factors and keep them until needed.
4. How to freeze and store blood using modern methods to use it until needed.
5. How to conduct the compatibility tests that are carried out on the blood of donors and the blood of the patient in order to achieve the safety of blood transfusion in a proper manner and to avoid falling into dangers.
