University of Al-Maarif took part in a workshop organized by University of Technology at Baghdad on the Times Higher Education (THE) rankings, with the presence of representatives from various Iraqi universities. The university was represented by Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Khalaf, Manager of the Quality Assurance and Accreditation Division, and Dean of the College of Science; Mr. Alaa Hamid Mohammed, Head of the Quality Unit, and Mr. Anas Diyab, Support and Follow-up Officer.
The workshop began with a video presentation from the Times Higher Education organization, showcasing the progress made by Iraqi universities in the ranking between 2020 and 2025, where 72 Iraqi universities were included. Following that, Prof. Dr. Khawla Salah Al-Khashan, Rector’s Assistant of University of Technology for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies, gave a detailed presentation on the Times ranking, explaining its various types and the criteria it is based on.
The workshop concluded with recommendations, including improving the quality of scientific research and the academic environment, increasing research output, enhancing international presence by attracting foreign students and establishing academic partnerships with THE-ranked universities. Additionally, the recommendations emphasized the importance of promoting research through media channels, strengthening collaboration with the industrial sector, and encouraging patents to support academic innovation and development.
