Asst. Prof. Dr. Yassir Mohammed Hammood, the Rector’s Administrative Assistant at University of Al-Maarif, attended the International Day of Education Celebration at the Ministry of Planning Headquarters, accompanied by the Manager of the Student Activities Unit, Asst. Lec. Ibrahim Hatam Ibrahim, which was held under the slogan (Education: The Key to Building Human Capital). The event took place at the Ministry of Planning headquarters. It was attended by the Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Deputy Minister of Education, and the presidents of Iraqi universities.
During his speech at the event, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning, Dr. Mohammed Ali Tamim, emphasized the ministry’s commitment to developing and diversifying academic programs in both undergraduate and postgraduate studies across all Iraqi universities, contributing to improving the quality of education. He highlighted the introduction of 561 new doctoral programs in government universities in Baghdad and other provinces over the past three years, including 171 Ph.D. programs, 358 master’s programs, and 32 higher diploma programs. He also pointed out the ministry’s focus on strengthening the role of the private sector in higher education alongside the government sector. This aims to bridge educational gaps in different regions and fields of specialization. Over the past three years, 20 private universities, 158 colleges, 498 departments, and 11 institutes have been established across Baghdad and the provinces.
