The Department of Medical Laboratories Technology – College of Health and Medical Technology at University of Al-Maaref, held a scientific seminar entitled (The Role of the Immune System in the Transplantation of Human Organs), Asst. Prof. Mohammed Abd Al-Kareem Hamid, a lecturer at University of Al-Maarif, and Asst. Prof. Abd Al-Rahman Mohammed Jiran – College of Medicine from University of Al-Anbar.
The seminar was held in cooperation with University of Al-Anbar and the Continuing Learning Centre, shed light on human organ transplantation operations in Iraq, especially kidney transplantation, and how to prepare donors and match tissues to increase the chances of success of the transplantation operation and prevent the immune system from attacking the transplanted organs. The many challenges facing human organ transplantation operations were also discussed, such as the lack of donor numbers and the increase in cases of kidney failure, alternative and innovative mechanisms and methods to reduce cases of kidney failure, which are still under clinical trials, were also discussed.
