On Saturday, 13th January 2024, the Department of Civil Engineering at Al-Maarif University College held a scientific seminar entitled (Soil Improvement and Foundation Restoration Techniques) in cooperation with the University of the Middle Euphrates, and the Union of Iraqi Engineers – Anbar Branch, in the presence of several lecturers of University of Anbar. The seminar opened with a recitation from the Holy Quran, while Dr. Mohammed Khalid, Head of Department, welcomed the distinguished guests in the college. The seminar was given by Prof. Dr. Makki Jaafar Al-Waely, a lecturer at the University of the Middle Euphrates who spoke on the reasons for the construction of the underground building foundations, the minimum base depth, the descent of the foundations: its causes and types, manufactured soil, and soil improvement techniques at the site. As well as, several topics on the old machinery and techniques that were used in construction at the time, and the methods of fixing foundations and bricks were discussed, indicating the difference between old and modern technologies.
