On Sunday, 14th January 2024, an open discussion was held in the Department of Arabic Language at Al-Maarif University College in cooperation with the Unit of Women Empowerment, under the slogan (Causes and Manifestations of Harassment in Iraqi Society and Legal Remedies). Several important topics were discussed, the first topic: rooting for this phenomenon by language and terminology, and its causes, including education, follow-up, lack of religious awareness and mistrust, the impact of globalization on society, and the large amount of space provided by the internet beyond the limits of family and government surveillance. The seminar also discussed the types of harassment and showed it from consideration, speech and deed, as well as stated that this phenomenon has evolved from daily reality to virtual and technological reality and between its types and the world. The second topic dealt with how Iraqi legislators dealt with the phenomenon of harassment and its legal consequences and the legal remedies for some and encouraged that silence about this phenomenon and its curtailment made it excessive and widespread. The last topic dealt with cultural remoteness, how the Arab intellectuals addressed it in the literature and how highlighted it through a reading of several novels dealing with this phenomenon.
